Episode Description

Join me as I discuss with John the transformational experiences of adoptees and other persons of unknown parentage who have successfully searched and discovered their true biological origins through the testing of their DNA. What impact does this have on persons sense of their selves? Their self-identity? Their place in the world? What should one expect and how should one best prepare before undertaking such a deeply personal and life altering journey? As John is fond of saying: “DNA doesn’t lie. Everyone else in your life – including the courts, families, social and religious organizations - may have consistently withheld important life facts or obscured the truth, but your DNA doesn’t lie.

Traveling around the world since the age of three months gave me a unique perspective and the ability to appreciate people and life in general. Although I didn’t join the military, I served as a civil servant for almost 37 years. Little did I know that I was preparing for my future. I started coaching over 20 plus years ago with my own children and kept honing my craft. I continue to do so via membership in many federal and civil organizations, partnering with local schools and my volunteer work. As a civil servant, I helped my organization develop a coaching culture and still have a 98 percent success rate helping others advance their career. Post retirement, I followed my passion, launching New Horizen Coaching and Professional Growth Advancement, LLC. My professional goal is to incrementally increase the visibility, understanding and impact of coaching. I am an introvert with a strong, powerful voice that resonates to a person in a way that they can understand. My background enables me to observe, assess and be constructive in my dialogue. Coaching is a rewarding experience and I have received many accolades and recognitions, the most recent being the Small Business Pinnacle Award Semi-Finalist from the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce two years in a row. In addition to a coach, I am also a knowledge and change management professional whose mantra is EACH ONE, REACH ONE. I want to give people back their voice and VoiceAmerica is a forum whose name inspires me to do so.
